Do you have MetLife dental insurance? We hope you use your policy to the fullest extent possible! Your coverage is there to help you get the high-quality preventive care you need so you can avoid oral health problems. If your teeth need a bit of repair, your policy can minimize your out of pocket costs. Dr. Narita is proud to be in-network with MetLife, which means our team is well-equipped to help you understand your plan and take full advantage of your benefits.
Most of the plans that MetLife offers are PPO plans, which allow you to visit any licensed dentist. Many employers offer group coverage through MetLife, but the insurance company also offers individual and family policies that you can purchase on your own. Because so many different coverage options are available, you’ll have to check the fine print of your plan to discover the details of how your insurance works. However, we can give you some general guidelines on how your PPO insurance might apply to certain services:
Keep in mind that your plan is likely to have a waiting period of 6 – 12 months before you’re eligible to receive certain services. PPO insurance also comes with an annual maximum, which is the highest dollar amount that MetLife is willing to pay for approved services within a calendar year. Depending on your specific plan, your maximum may be between $1,000 and $2,000.
Visiting an in-network dentist allows you to get as much as possible out of your plan because in-network providers have a contract with MetLife that predetermines the fees for certain services. Therefore, your out of pocket costs will be lower. Also, because in-network dentists are used to working with MetLife, they are in the best position to help you understand and maximum your coverage. For example, we may be able to schedule your treatment across calendar years so you can take advantage of two yearly maximums rather than just one when you need a major service.
